Season 7: Ash Wednesday | Crossing the Threshold Into Lent

We received such a great response to the practices and moments of quiet reflection that we included in our most recent episodes that we decided to do the same thing with Lent. The seasons of the church year are meant to teach us something about the spiritual life we need to learn. In fact, by entering into these seasons we experience the deeper dynamics and rhythms of the spiritual life by walking closely with Jesus and learning from him as we go. In this season of the Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership podcast, we are privileged to prepare and walk through the season of Lent together.

Just to add a harmony thought to this great podcast – in my morning reading, from the Guide to Prayer for Ministers and Other Servants I read, “…we might see in the crucifixion of Jesus the ultimate act of prophetic criticism…the ultimate criticism is not one of triumphant indignation but one of the passion and compassion…The contrast is stark and total: this passionate man set in the midst of a numbed Jerusalem. And only passion can finally penetrate the numbness.” Walter Brueggemann
In Lent, I invite myself to be open to the passion of Christ to enter into my spiritual numbness. May it be so….
